アルバムを購入するきっかけは、いろいろとある。このアルバムは、スイングジャーナル誌で高い評価を受けた。それではと思い、2010年4月にAmazonで輸入版を購入。一回聴いて「オレの感覚と違うな」と棚に仕舞い込んだ。その後、数回聴いたが、心が揺さぶられることなく終わった。ピアニストとしてのハチャメチャがないのだ。
今回、8年半振りに聴き直した。結果は同じ。頑丈な骨組み、完璧な譜面、許されない手癖。3拍子揃った非ジャズである。ブラッド・メルドーの音楽が非ジャズとは言わないが、少なくともこのアルバムは自分にはダメ。随所に入る手拍子すら譜面にきっちり書かれているような気がする。
