2002年のGrammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Albumを受賞。輸入盤CDには、キューバのジャーナリストLeonard Ascota（レオナルド・アコスタ）による長文の解説（英語とスペイン語、2001年1月）、チャーリー・ヘイデンの挨拶文（英語）、ゴンサロ・ルバルカバの挨拶文（英語とスペイン語）が掲載されている。チャーリーとゴンサロの文章を読めば、本作の素晴らしさが十分に伝わってくる。
ゴンサロと私は、1986年にハバナのジャズプラザと呼ばれるジャズ・フェスティバルで出会った。それ以来、私たちはとても親しい友人になり、何度も一緒に演奏し録音してきた。数年前、私はゴンザロにいつかキューバのバラード（ボレロ）のアルバムを一緒に録音したいと伝えた。この録音のために選ばれた曲は、私がその音楽の伝統について聞いた中で最も美しいと感じる曲だ。また、私たちのオリジナルの作品も含まれている。ゴンザロと一緒にこの音楽を演奏できて光栄だ。彼の音楽はカテゴリーを超えている。彼の壮大な演奏は言うまでもなく、アレンジとオーケストレーションで、このプロジェクトに多大な愛と献身を注ぎ込んだ。（2001年1月、チャーリー・ヘイデン）

Gonzalo Rubalcaba and I met at the jazz festival called Jazz Plaza in Havana in 1986. Since that time, we've become very close friends and performed and recorded together many times. Several years ago, I told Gonzalo that someday I would like to record an album of Cuban ballads (boleros) with him. The songs chosen for this recording are those that I feel are among the most beautiful that I have heard of that musical tradition. Also included are some original compositions of ours. I am honored to have played this music with Gonzalo. His music is beyond category. He put so much love and dedication into this project writing the arrangements and orchestrations, not to mention his magnificent playing.

The gentleness of his spirit and his music move me in a profound way, and since then there have been numerous occasions for us to share our admiration and our creative mission. I would like to thank Charlie not only for trusting me and showing his affectionate relationship with Cuba and its music, but also for the sincerity and sympathy with which he committed himself to this production.
