キースは、ソロ・コンサートで一つの頂点を極めた。圧倒的に他の追従を許さない金字塔であったと言える。その翌年にリリースしたアルバム。前作とは全く違ったコンセプト。リズム楽器を強調したグループサウンド。だが、明らかにキースサウンドである。ジャズではあるが、ときにはフォーク色があって、ブルース的なしばりが全くない。決して張りつめた緊張感ではなく、計算された音作りながら、計算外に賭けている音楽。『宝島』なので、宝を持ち帰られたかは聴き手に委ねているのだろう。ジャケット内には、キース作と思われる詩が掲載されている。概念的で難しいのだが訳してみた。未来を描こうというメッセージのような気がする。
