1945年から1946年に掛けての7つのセッションをまとめたもの。ディジー・ガレスピーを聴くというより、当時のビバップの雰囲気を味わうアルバムである。ただし、ライブ演奏が一曲もないので、その「息吹」までを感じ取るのは難しい。録音日の順に収録されているのはありがたいが、録音スタジオは全てのセッションで不明。
当然ながら、ガレスピーは全曲に参加している。そして、ミルト・ジャクソンが半分以上に参加していて、ヴァイブの音色が新鮮さを引き出している。演奏時間が全て3分程度というのも、当時の演奏スタイルだったことが分かる。
