1971年12月28日から31日まで、ニューヨークのAcademy Of Musicで行われたザ・バンドのライブアルバム。Disc 2のラスト4曲はディランが参加。飛び入りだったらしく、演奏が始まったのは年が明けてからとWikipediaにあった。以前から雑な演奏と思っていたが、ディランは舞台に上がるまで新年を祝って飲んでいたんじゃないだろうか。
そして、今でも気になるのはジャケット。仏像のような写真はどこで撮られたものなのか。タイトルRock Of Agesと写真との関係は。本作がリリースされたのは1972年8月。ベトナム戦争が一つの争点とされた大統領選挙のあった年。なにか関係があったのかも知れない。
