1954年6月の2つのセッション、そして55年1月のセッションから構成。この期間には他のセッションも行われ、アルバムBud Powell '57としてリリースされている。本来はJazz Originalというタイトルであったが、1957年の再発で意味もなく変更されてしまった。プロデューサーは、どのセッションもノーマン・グランツ。
明らかにバド・パウエルが不調な時期。何故、グランツは精力的に録音を重ねたのだろうか。彼のWikipediaには、こんな一文がある。Norman Granz opposed racism and fought many battles for his artists, many of whom were black.（グランツは人種差別に反対し、アーティストのために数多く戦ってきた。そのほとんどは黒人だった）。
「誰にだって好不調はある。不調なときだからこそ、手を差し伸べなければならない」。そんな気持ちだったのではないだろうか。タイトルは「バド・パウエルの気持ち」だが、これをノーマン・グランツと置き換えても良いのだ。となると、ジャケットはパウエルとグランツのようにも見えてくる。
