チャーリー・ヘイデンとブラッド・メルドーによるデュオアルバム。2007年11月のアールヌーボー様式の大聖堂Christuskircheでのライブ演奏ながら、リリースは2018年。10年以上、テープを倉庫に眠らせていたことになる。輸入盤CDには、ヘイデンの妻Ruth Cameron（ルース・キャメロン）とメルドーによる長文の解説が載っている（当然ながら英文）。オンラインOCRとGoogle翻訳の力を借りて、その理由がわかった。

ジャズ・フェスティバルのディレクターRainer Kern（ライナー・カーン）が録音を勧めたが、ヘイデンとメルドーは明確に拒否。たぶん、勝手にテープが使われることを恐れたのだろうが、キャメロンが説得して、カーンがテープを所有することで合意。ところが、二人のミュージシャンに関する契約上の理由から、簡単にリリースすることができなかったようだ。皮肉なことに、2014年7月にヘイデンが他界して3年経ち、ようやく発売に漕ぎつけたことになる。

2002年のGrammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Albumを受賞。輸入盤CDには、キューバのジャーナリストLeonard Ascota（レオナルド・アコスタ）による長文の解説（英語とスペイン語、2001年1月）、チャーリー・ヘイデンの挨拶文（英語）、ゴンサロ・ルバルカバの挨拶文（英語とスペイン語）が掲載されている。チャーリーとゴンサロの文章を読めば、本作の素晴らしさが十分に伝わってくる。

ゴンサロと私は、1986年にハバナのジャズプラザと呼ばれるジャズ・フェスティバルで出会った。それ以来、私たちはとても親しい友人になり、何度も一緒に演奏し録音してきた。数年前、私はゴンザロにいつかキューバのバラード（ボレロ）のアルバムを一緒に録音したいと伝えた。この録音のために選ばれた曲は、私がその音楽の伝統について聞いた中で最も美しいと感じる曲だ。また、私たちのオリジナルの作品も含まれている。ゴンザロと一緒にこの音楽を演奏できて光栄だ。彼の音楽はカテゴリーを超えている。彼の壮大な演奏は言うまでもなく、アレンジとオーケストレーションで、このプロジェクトに多大な愛と献身を注ぎ込んだ。（2001年1月、チャーリー・ヘイデン）

Gonzalo Rubalcaba and I met at the jazz festival called Jazz Plaza in Havana in 1986. Since that time, we've become very close friends and performed and recorded together many times. Several years ago, I told Gonzalo that someday I would like to record an album of Cuban ballads (boleros) with him. The songs chosen for this recording are those that I feel are among the most beautiful that I have heard of that musical tradition. Also included are some original compositions of ours. I am honored to have played this music with Gonzalo. His music is beyond category. He put so much love and dedication into this project writing the arrangements and orchestrations, not to mention his magnificent playing.

The gentleness of his spirit and his music move me in a profound way, and since then there have been numerous occasions for us to share our admiration and our creative mission. チャーリー・ヘイデンは2014年7月11日に他界（享年76）。その訃報を知ってすぐ、アルバムSteal Awayと同時に注文したBeyond The Missouri Sky（邦題：ミズーリの空高く）。Steal Awayはハンク・ジョーンズ、本作はパット・メセニーとのデュオである。括弧を付けたサブタイトルShort Storiesが付いている。二人の短い会話をつなぎ合わせたという意味だろうか。

CDジャーナルによるレビュー。「ともにミズーリ州出身という2人。すでに何度か共演はしているものの、ベースとギターのシンプルなデュオというのは今回が初めて。どことなく哀愁を帯びたセンチメンタルな楽曲がズラリと並んでおり、彼らの音楽的背景を知る上でも興味深い1枚だ」。たしかに、タイトル通りの澄み渡った演奏である。
