寺村敏氏のライナーノーツから。「ショーンとの生活の中で、ショーンに話してあげたいことがあった。それは、いつもは食事の世話をしているけど、パパは他のこともできるんだよ、ということさ。'79年のクリスマスに近所の人がショーンに〈イエロー・サブマリン〉を見せたんだけれど、彼は帰ってくるなりこう言ったものさ。『パパが歌っていたよ。パパはビートルズだったの？』そこで僕は『うんそうだな・・・そうだよ』と答えたわけさ」。

まわりから見ればとても単純なきっかけと思えてしまう。とても大きな必然性がない限り、今後は音楽活動することはないだろうと言っていたジョンにとって、ショーン君の発言は音楽活動を再開するひきがね。必然性にじゅうぶん価するものであったのだろう。

高校を卒業する前年に録音されたアルバムであることを、改めて確認した。だけど、リアルタイムでは聴いていなかったアルバム。当時、自分はジャズにかなり傾倒し始めていた。ジャズを選択してロックを捨てるということはなかったが、限られた予算（小遣い）と時間で選んだのはジャズだった。

このアルバムを聴くのは何年振りだろう。Stand by Meを聴けば、あっという間に50年近く前にタイムスリップできる。
