オリジナルのアルバムLet It Beを何度も聴き、耳が馴染んでいたので、このネイキッドを初めて聴いた時は、何となく違和感があった。オリジナルは1970年5月、ネイキッドは2003年11月のリリースである。ポール・マッカートニーは、オリジナルの、特にThe Long And Winding Roadのアレンジには強い不満を持っていたのだ。

ポールはリミックスした形での再リリースを計画し、リンゴ・スター、オノ・ヨーコ、ジョージ・ハリスンの同意を得て実現したアルバム。しかし、30年という長い間、ポールはよく我慢していたものだ。タイトルのNaked（裸の）通り、無駄な装飾を取り去った形になっている。オリジナルは厚化粧、ネイキッドは薄化粧。そんな感じである。どちらを選ぶかは、好みの問題。なお、ネイキッドではオリジナルに収録されたDig ItとMaggie Maeが省かれ、Don't Let Me Downが入っている。そして、曲順も大きく異なる。このことも好みを左右するだろう。自分としては、30年間のポールの怨念を背負ったネイキッドに軍配を上げたい。

Disc 2には、1969年に行なわれたゲット・バック・セッションから抜粋された歌と会話を収録。ボーナス・ディスクであるが、単なるオマケ。

昭和の日。と言っても、このアルバムと直接の関係はない。自分にとっての昭和的アルバムである。国内でリリースされたのは1970年6月。昭和45年。中学2年の時。理科の自由研究の発表で、テープに録音したThe Long And Winding Roadをラジカセで教室に流したことを思い出す。環境音とデシベルの関係についての調査だった。

アルバムAbbey Roadは、1969年10月からアルバム・チャートを1位独走。しかし、1970年3月頃から下降が始まり、6月にLet It Beが急浮上して1位に。だが、Abbey Roadほどの力はなく、2ヶ月程度で失速した。米国では、ジョージ・ハリスンのAll Things Must Passが1970年末に登場。52年前、昭和真っ盛りの頃の出来事。

今さら書くことは何もない。ジャケットに手書きのアルバム・チャートが挿入されていたので、改めて見ると、1969年終盤に英国と米国で1位を連続。「怪物」と呼んでいいアルバムである。
