2000年12月にディランの5度目の来日が発表され、それに合わせて日本のみでリリースされたアルバム。全16曲中、6曲が未発表、5曲がアルバム未収録。内容はタイトル通りで、1961年から2000年までの39年間に渡るライブ演奏を集めたもの。未収録はSomebody Touched Me, Wade In The Water, Handsome Molly, Grand Coulee Dam, Things Have Changedの5曲。

このスタジオライブはDVDで所有しているが、iTunesに突っ込むためのCDを探してきて、ようやく見つかった。観客はディランのグループを囲むように舞台の裏側にも。演奏に反応して、舞台の周りで観客がスタンディングとなる。どの曲も絶妙なアレンジでアコースティックサウンドが基本。エレキではなくウッドベースを起用。DVDを見ると、とにかくディランがカッコイイ。DVDに入っているLove Minus Zero / No LimitがCDに無いのは極めて残念。だが、The Times They Are A-Changin'（時代は変わる）を30年以上歌い続けていることに、ディランのこだわりを強く感じる。

ベストはMy Back Pages、次点はBlowin' In The Windとしたい。スティーヴィー・ワンダーは、どんな曲でも自分のものにしてしまう。まるで、スティーヴィーの「風に吹かれて」だ。そして、My Back Pagesは、Roger McGuinn, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, George Harrisonという順番で歌い継ぐ。何度聴いても自分の中で熱くなる瞬間。ディランの次にハリソンという演出が心憎い。ライブの雰囲気が知りたくて、DVDも入手済み。さて、来年はデビュー60年となるディランなのだが…。たぶん、何もしないだろう
